This is an amazing story of an amazing man who through adversity has succeeded in becoming one of the most successful restaurant franchisers in Western Australia.

Welcome to Hans Café website and a chain that now boasts 14 cafés throughout Greater Perth. "All this has been achieved within 7 years of hard work", said Ian Han the business entrepreneur. Ian Han was a near fatal victim of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia during the late 1970's in which time he learnt to cook for over 2,000 people per day in soldier-run labour camps working over 100 hours per week. After his escape through Thailand - the only member of his family not to have been killed, he migrated to Australia with his wife Tram, a young Vietnamese woman he met in a refugee camp.

They worked in laundry and dry cleaning together upon their arrival in Adelaide saving every dollar they could until they were able to set up their own restaurant. Deciding to move to Perth in 1995 Mr. Han saw a huge market in the Asian cuisine area and decided to set up his own brand of eatery. After arranging a bank loan, the 1st Hans Café opened in Murray Street Perth, and the rest is now a success story.

The café chain plans to open an additional 11 outlets over the next 2 years in the Greater Perth region with all current locations reporting unprecedented growth and turnover.

"My cafés will be all over Australia and around the world within a very short time" said Mr. Han whose approach to this rising empire is simple, "if you are not afraid of hard work, you will succeed".

The food is delicious and the menu has over 125 different dishes. Having such a diverse range of cuisine combined with strong use of Asian images, bamboo floorboards and tall bamboo sticks wedged in washed stones serve as dividers gives patrons a real sense of an Asian experience.

Although eight of the nine Han's Café locations are either under franchise, or leased, all offer the same quality of dining, but each with it's own individual flair.
